LAHORE: The National Grid Company of Pakistan Ltd (NGC) has successfully energised the 500kV K2/K3–Matiari and KKI–Port Qasim transmission line circuits, marking a key milestone in enhancing the national power transmission network. The 102-kilometre, double-circuit quad-bundle transmission line is designed to evacuate 2,200MW from the K2 and K3 nuclear power plants near Karachi.
Completed at an estimated cost of PKR 18.45 billion, the project establishes a dedicated connection between the K2/K3 nuclear facilities of KANUPP (PAEC) and the existing Port Qasim–Matiari line. This critical infrastructure upgrade strengthens grid reliability, improves transmission capacity, and enhances stability across the southern region.
The energisation will bolster regional grid resilience, spur economic activity, and generate employment opportunities. Importantly, it also aligns with Pakistan’s energy security goals by integrating clean nuclear energy into the national power mix — contributing to a more sustainable and reliable energy future.
